What is the

Post Graduate Institute for Osteopathy?

With the distinguished guidance of Dr. Eliott Blackman, DO, FCA, Post Graduate Institute of Osteopathy (PGIO) was established as a charitable organization (501c3) to give medical professionals a more straightforward educational experience of the healing arts of Osteopathy and related systems of health.

Recognizing the challenges that are faced when studying such a sophisticated field, Dr. Blackman founded PGIO to offer a more effortless and efficient means to build skills and minimize the learning curve for manual medicine – a goal enthusiastically accepted by both medical students and physicians at large.

The History of Osteopathy

What is a

Doctor of Osteopathy?

A DO, or Doctor of Osteopathy, is an unlimited licensed healthcare professional (can prescribe medication, perform surgery, etc.) that focuses on treating the body as a whole rather than just focusing on individual parts. In addition to other approaches, Osteopaths use their hands to gently diagnose and treat disorders, as well as provide preventive health care. They are trained to assess, diagnose and treat the body’s structure, functions and systems in order to restore balance and optimize health. The goal is to help patients achieve their highest level of health using the least invasive modalities . There is no other system of medicine that is as complete.
